
Ávila, or “Ávila de los Caballeros” (Avila of the Knights) is the capital of the province of the same name in the autonomous region of Castilla & León.
It is most famous for its well preserved medieval city walls which surround the whole city (well, the old bits). It is also the highest provincial capital of Spain at 1117 metres above sea-level.

As mentioned in my previous post, I’d upload a set of images from Peñalara today. This time we did get to to the peak (2428 metres) but we had no snow this time so we didn’t have a hard time getting up there.

This photo isn’t at all recent, in fact, it was taken back in January! For some reason I managed not to post these set of images. The day we went up to (or tried to) Peñalara (highest mountain peak of the mountain range of Guadrrama) we were kind of snowed in and couldn’t safely climb up. We spent most of the time in the vicinity of the train station. I will post a set of images tommorow from not too long ago in which we did manage to climb up!

Pedraza is a tiny village (Population 481) in the province of Segovia (Castilla y Leon) about 120km from Madrid. Apart from having a good reputation for being a great place to eat in they are well known for an anual candle festival (La Noche de Las Velas) they hold. It consists of of turning off all lights in the town at night and lighting up the streets, doors and windows with thousands of candles during the first two Saturdays of July.
The locals do use artificial lighting inside their homes but shut their windows tightly so as not to spoil the effect from the outside.

The Segovian town of “La Granja de San Ildefonso” with a population of under 6000 people is home to one of the most important glass related institutions in Spain; The Glass Factory. It has since a number of years been transformed into a museum which showcases antique piezes, stained glass and modern art sculptures made in glass by artists from around the world as well as a small area dedicated to showing the public a live demonstration of how glass is made. To this date it is still possible to purchase glass made from this place.
