¡Visca Cataluña Viva España! (by hitkaiser)
Seeing how I’ve been updating this blog with the photos from my trip to Barcelona September, now would be a good time as any to wrap it up :)

In case you’ve missed out, I previously displayed some photos about a Coldplay Concert, The Barcelona Cathedral, The France Railway Station, The Bunker, The Volleyball World Tour and the Park of the Ciudadela.

Coldplay Barcelona 2009 - 13 (by hitkaiser)
Coldplay played in Barcelona back in September in the Olympic Stadium. The music was really really great, but the technical issues they were having with the sound (Speakers weren’t working properly) kind of made it feel like a rip-off, especially since the tickets cost so much. The photos were taken with my iPhone at a great distance from the stage (sorry).

Catedral de Barcelona - 12 (by hitkaiser)

Commonly known as Catedral de Barcelona (Cathedral of Barcelona), its proper name in fact is “Catedral de Santa Eulalia”. It was constructed throughout the 13th to 15th centuries (wikipedia article). The view from the rooftop is pretty good since it is located in the historic center of the city.

Estación de Francia - 7 (by hitkaiser)

Estació de França, Estación de Francia or France Station is a major railway station in Barcelona, the second largest after Sants. According to the article on wikipedia, its losing out more and more to Sants and to the upcoming station, Estació de la Sagrera. The reason its contains France in it’s name is that trains going to a number of parts of France (including Paris) leave from here. France isn’t the only destination as the Costa Brava within Spain is also served as well as outside the country to places such as Italy and Switzerland.

Barcelona at Night From the Bunker (by hitkaiser)
Popularly known as “El Bunker”, it is located at the top of the hill/park of “El Carmel”. It used to be a military bunker to protect the city of Barcelona from invaders coming in from the sea although apparently it was too far inland so it was quickly abandoned.

Aside from a couple of communication towers and  houses built there some decades ago (illegally) there isn’t much there. The bunker itself is a series of dark empty rooms filled with graffiti although little is easily accessible without a torch. The site is popular amongst all sorts of people; photographers wanting to take breathtaking night shots, young couples, underage drinkers or anyone wanting to enjoy the view.

Getting there isn’t too easy if you don’t have someone to take you there. I’ve heard that the council is planning to make it yet another tourist hotspot.

Parque de la Ciudadela

September 22nd, 2009 Hitesh No comments

This park is in the heart of Barcelona, for many years it was in fact the only park in Barcelona and is still amongst the largest. The city’s zoo is within the park (although the zoo is being split up as we speak).
