Yes, it’s that time of the year where I go over my year, month by month, in the form of pictures and a bit of text, just as I did in 2007 and 2008 !
The biggest change this year is that I’ve sort of settled down now in my hometown (Madrid, Spain). I’ve been using weekends to photowalk with a number of like-minded photographers around the city and sometimes visiting other towns. I would say that for me, the highlights for this year (photographically speaking) are probably the heavy snow experienced in Jan, my trip to India in Feb and my trip to Italy in Sep. However, there is much to see so do have a look!
So as not to make this post any longer than it already is, I’ve added links to relevant posts or flickr sets where more photos from the mentioned event can be seen. All links open up in a new browser window so don’t be afraid to click on them, you won’t lose this page.
Oh and if you like this blog and want to subscribe to it there is a handy RSS feed here to do just that!

Vatican City is a Country within The Capital City of Italy. Make sense? Basically its where the Pope, the head of the Catholic church resides and does what he does. For tourists, it isn’t entirely obvious when you are entering and exiting Italy and entering the Vatican City and vice versa, they seem perfectly integrated although it’s likely that the bureaucratic arrangements between the two are quite complex behind the scenes.
What can you find in the Vatican? St. Peters Cathedral – which is ridiciously huge with magnificient views from the top. You can also visit the Vatican Museum which is a collection of 4 (I think) Museums held together within the same complex. Apart from that, there are many government and state buildings around which are quite nice to look at.
Whilst visiting the “main stuff” takes up about day, there are other things that can be visited such as the catacombs but which have to be booked in advance (I didn’t get to see them).
You can read more about the state on Wiki.

The Roman Colosseum is probably one of the most emblematic of Roman structures which was “recently” glorified in the movie Gladiator. What’s surprising is how much is still standing and the fact that its open to visitors (not the actual pit unfortunately).

People from Pisa may hate me for this but I’m going to say it. There are only two reasons to go to Pisa, either you are a university student (its a large university town) or you want to see the leaning tower of Pisa and whatever may be around it (which is quite a lot). There I said it
I spent a day in Pisa and almost all of it was in the area surrounding the famed tower, which in fact is a Bell tower for the cathedral which is right in front of it.
